Why is it that sometimes when I click on a privacy policy for one site it shows the privacy policy of a different site?
This happens when there is a "parent policy" used by an organization to cover all of its web properties. For example, if you go to the pogo site and click on its privacy policy link, you will be taken to the parent policy for Electronic Arts. This is also the case for Transcontinental Media which has many web sites covered by its parent policy. Instead of reprinting the same policies repeatedly in the library collection, we simply redirect your browser to the appropriate parent policy.
Why are there so many keywords for some privacy policies.
Keep in mind that our primary purpose is to act as a library; a reference tool. So when we can connect things to a policy, we do so. This is particularly the case where a major organization like a media conglomerate owns many web properties. Often these many different sites will all have the same privacy policy.
Why do I get a security certificate warning when I first set up my @securesurfing.org email account?
Even though the mail server you configure is mail.securesurfing.org , that service is hosted for us by a third party.
The security certificate for securing your email connection is a "shared" certificate, meaning it is used to secure several sites. We hire several service providers, so depending on which particular server your email is being processed, the certificate detail will show something about lunarmania, lunarpages, or serverfly. For example a common connect is with demeter.lunarmania.com.
To avoid future interruptions, you should Confirm Exception to accept the security certificate.
Why does my email program say it cannot connect to mail.securesurfing.org?
This problem is usually associated with anti-virus programs. You may have to tell your antivirus to connect to port 587 and reset your email client to the standard port 110. Because each program handles making connections differently, there is not a quick answer here. Please post a help request in the Secure Surfing Network Email forum.
Why did I get message saying demeter.lunarmania.com had caught spam addressed to me?
One of our service providers, Lunar Pages, runs automatic protection software on all emails passing to securesurfing.org email addresses. They do not delete the messages in case it is a "false positive." Instead the message is attached to the warning notice so that if it is actually a message you want, you can open the attachment. False positives are very rare. In almost every circumstance you should DELETE the email and NOT open the attachment.
